The Advisory Board’s 2019 program continues its leadership and coordination role in the consistent adoption of Building Information Modelling
The Australasian BIM Advisory Board (ABAB) held its first Forum for 2019 on 20 February in Adelaide.
- BIM Process Consistency, and
- Asset Information Requirements
These recently released documents were praised as important for the consistent adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) through the design, construction and operation of an asset.
The NSW Department of Finance, Services and Innovation presented the NSW Digital Twin for the physical environment being piloted on the Smart Western City Deal.
Dr Michael Green, Chair of ABAB and Executive Director, Invest Victoria, Department of Treasury and Finance, Victoria stated that “through ABAB, States and Territories have an opportunity to collaborate on a federated information sharing platform”.
The Forum endorsed the 2019 ABAB program that continues to provide national leadership:
- The ABAB Guides will be piloted on government projects with learnings shared and incorporated into future ABAB best practice guidance materials.
- The Australian BIM Strategic Framework will be promoted across governments to support a consistent approach.
- The roles BIM can play in supporting better outcomes for asset management will be developed.
The BIM Advisory Board established by the Australasian Procurement and Construction Council (APCC) and the Australian Construction Industry Forum (ACIF), together with the key standard-setting bodies, NATSPEC, buildingSMART and Standards Australia, promotes best practice and consistent approaches to BIM practices, standards and requirements.
